About Hack-R-Play ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ป

Hack-R-Play is the first major event we organized in our ReactPlay community. It was an online-only hackathon throughout October 2022.

The hackathon is sponsored by Nhost, an open-source firebase alternative with GraphQL support.

Individual or group projects could be submitted by participants. They were supposed to develop an open-source application and write a blog about it. The application was to be built using any React Ecosystem technology and Nhost as the backend framework.

Read the announcement blog if you want to learn more about the event.

The Success Story ๐Ÿฅณ

We were blown away by the number of participants and community response. The submission deadline was initially set for October 15, 2022, but due to a large number of participants, we extended it to October 22.

And delaying the deadline was worthwhile. During the hackathon, we received 82 ideas. 17 ideas were completed successfully within the deadline, while 24 still needed to be completed. Every project participant who completed a blog became eligible for the winning criteria.

Don't feel bad if your project is still in the works. Regardless of the hackathon, you can work on it and add it to your portfolio.

Hackathon Winners ๐Ÿ†

Now it's time to announce the winners. We boarded two judges from the Nhost team and two from the ReactPlay community. Entries were judged based on the application's user experience, use case, and the quality of the article posted. We decided to select three top entries as winners.

The Third Prize ๐Ÿฅ‰

The third prize goes to Aashish Panthi for Mailsbe. mailsbe.png

Vote of Thanks ๐Ÿ™

And at last, we want to thank everyone who directly and indirectly contributed to making this hackathon successful.

We are grateful to Nhsot for their sponsorship. Johan. Nhost's CEO and Pratim, Nhost's developer advocate, agreed to judge submissions. Their help made it possible to organize the hackathon without any hurdles.

Most importantly, the 82 participants, whether individuals or teams are the primary reason for the hackathon's success. It could not have happened without your enthusiasm. We appreciate your willingness to learn, explore new frameworks, step outside your comfort zone to write blogs, and publicly display your work. Thank you for taking part in the event.

Our team is the unseen pillar of our success. From the idea's conception to its successful execution, every community member contributed in some way. Some helped with the design, some with the code, some with the review of pull requests or blogs, and some with participant support.

Thank you! We appreciate your contributions and enthusiasm towards communities, the web and open-source.

Wrapping Up! ๐Ÿ‘‹

And that's officially a wrap! But that's not it.

We have many exciting events planned for the future. The following event will take place next month. Stay tuned for our November event, as we have some exciting plans for it.

The simplest way to stay up-to-date with everything that we are up to is to follow us on Twitter. We also recently started posting content on LinkedIn. Feel free to join our communitywhere all the fun happens.

Until next event, happy open-source! ๐ŸŒฟ
